Hard skills

In order to advance your career, you should know which your hard skills are. Hard skills are skills that can be easily defined and numbered. You will need them for jobs and at university because they are categorized as “mandatory” during the application process.

Hard skills include the necessary knowledge and skills to successfully finish their tasks in a job. These skills can be measured, defined, valued and learned at any age.

  • Computer skills

Computer skills are classified as mandatory and important no matter your field of work. The more you advance your skills, the more competent you will be.

Building your computer skills start with basic lectures such as fast writing, knowledge of Microsoft Office and spreadsheet work. Then you can advance your web-related skills such as emails, social networks, etc.

  • Data management

Every company works with a lot of data. Therefore, you will need to have good data management skills in order to search and find the necessary data. You must be able to analyze results, understand guidelines, review and create reports.

  • Scheduling

One other skill that you should add to your hard skills is scheduling. Scheduling means which tasks to execute, when is the most effective time, which equipment should you use and how to manage your time. Even if you might not be a project manager, scheduling is a useful hard skill to have (it can be applied in every part of your life). If you are good at scheduling, you will manage your time and life in the best possible way.

  • Research skills

Research skills are needed every time you are preparing for a job interview. Through these skills, you will gather information regarding the new industry you might be getting into and to prepare a plan on where to start.

  • Financial skills

There are a vast number of skills in the finance category. These include accounting, financial planning, budget planning, money flow management, and much more. That doesn’t mean that you should possess all of them, you only need to be good with numbers.

Almost every job nowadays including professional positions requires hard skills. Possessing specific hard skills shows the capability of a person to successfully finish their tasks in a job. Soft skills are your personal attributes, personality traits, communication skills necessary for your success at work.  Soft skills are the skills that show how a person interacts with others.

The success of a company rarely depends on a person. The success is a result of the work of many people with the same goal in mind. When coworkers can match their different talents with each other, everyone wins. This will help you create a better image of you to your employer and coworkers.

  • Problem-solving

When something goes wrong, you can complain or do something about it. You should always choose to do something about it and try to solve your problems. Robinson said, “Always offer a solution to your employer and not an issue”. So, when an issue arises, sit down and think about how you should handle it before bringing that to your employer’s attention.

  • Critical observation

If you are a critical thinker, you can also be a good employee. Companies need critical thinkers, persons who offer new perspectives and intuitive ways and ideas to help companies gain an advantage on other companies. In order to be a critical thinker, you need to analyze information and use that information.

Soft skills are becoming more important for employers when they have to select between potential candidates with similar experience and educational background. In this competitive labor market, employers seek specific soft skills that are more suitable for the job position.  Soft skills give candidates an advantage and show to potential employers the worth that you’ll bring to the company. These skills complete hard skills and possessing different soft skills will give you a big advantage.
